April Volunteer Opportunities in Lansing

April is a great month to volunteer in Lansing. There are a number of opportunities to get involved in the Lansing area in April. National Volunteer Week is April 15-April 21 and April 22 is Earth Day. Michigan State University also organizes a Global Day of Service in April each year to bring Spartans together to serve others in their communities. Check out these opportunities below:

Earth Day Volunteer Opportunities:

  • April 21: Participate in MSU’s student global day of service on April 21. There are a number of volunteer projects specifically for MSU students. Check out all the volunteer opportunities for students here:  https://serve.msu.edu/volunteers.cfm?service=636

Other Ways to Get Involved:

  • April 14: Recycle Rama is Lansing’s largest 1-day recycling event. Difficult-to-recycle items like electronics, televisions, and bikes are accepted, reclaimed, and repurposed. You can also volunteer to help run the event: http://www.midmeac.org/land-use/recycle-rama/

  • The American Red Cross always needs donation ambassadors. Volunteers register donors as they arrive or sit with them in the refreshment (canteen) area offering them snacks, juice/water when they’re finished giving blood and help to make their experience with the Red Cross a great one. Become a volunteer:                                             http://www.redcross.org/volunteer/volunteer-opportunities/blood-donor-ambassador

  • Make a difference in someone’s life by volunteering to raise future service dogs. A puppy is placed in your home at 8 weeks of age and returns to PAWS for its formal Assistance Dog training at 18 months of age. PAWS provides weekly training classes for Puppy Raisers and are able to provide routine Veterinary care for the puppy at no charge to the Raiser.
